The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a fatal stabbing that claimed the life of one man and left another injured early Sunday morning in Rancho Cordova, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday after the department’s communications center received a report of an apparent argument involving four to five people near the intersection of El Mercado Drive and Chettenham Drive.

When deputies arrived, they located two injured adult men and immediately began providing medical aid while requesting assistance from the fire department.

One of the victims, who authorities said appeared to have suffered a stab wound, was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts. A second adult man suffered a laceration to the head and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released.

The Sheriff’s Office said several other individuals were in the area when the violence occurred and are expected to be interviewed as detectives work to determine exactly what led to the deadly confrontation.

Crime Scene Investigators and Homicide Detectives remained at the scene Sunday as they continued processing evidence and gathering witness statements.

Officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional details regarding a possible suspect or arrests have been released.
