Craft beer, live music, food and history come together in Friends of Folsom Powerhouse
Craft beer, local history and live entertainment will once again come together at one of the region’s most iconic landmarks as the Friends of the Folsom Powerhouse prepare to host the 10th Annual Powerfest Taps & Tunes on Saturday, June 13.
Set against the backdrop of the historic Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park, the popular annual fundraiser has become a signature summer tradition that celebrates both the community and the unique connection between the Sacramento region’s brewing industry and one of California’s most significant engineering achievements.
Taking place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park, located at 9980 Greenback Lane, the event invites guests to enjoy an afternoon and evening of craft beer tasting, live music, food truck fare and guided tours of the historic facility that helped usher California into the age of electricity.
For beer enthusiasts, Powerfest offers the opportunity to sample more than 20 different brews while mingling with fellow craft beer lovers in a setting unlike any other in the region. Live music will provide the soundtrack throughout the event as guests explore the grounds, enjoy local food offerings and learn more about the rich history that makes the Folsom Powerhouse a treasured community landmark.
The event’s roots run deeper than simply celebrating good beer and good company. Organizers created Powerfest to showcase the historic relationship between the Folsom Powerhouse and the Sacramento area’s brewing industry, while also raising critical funds that support educational programs at the park.
The Folsom Powerhouse itself remains one of the most important historic sites in California. Opened in 1895, the hydroelectric facility was among the first in the nation to successfully transmit alternating-current electricity over a long distance, delivering power more than 20 miles to Sacramento. The technological breakthrough helped transform industries throughout the region and established the powerhouse as a pioneering achievement in American engineering.

Today, visitors from throughout California travel to the site to learn about the history of electricity, industrial innovation and the role the powerhouse played in shaping the growth of the Sacramento Valley. During Powerfest, guests will have the opportunity to take guided tours and gain a deeper appreciation for the facility’s remarkable legacy while enjoying the festivities.
The event also comes during a milestone year for the Friends of the Folsom Powerhouse. The organization is celebrating 40 years of service as a cooperating association of California State Parks, helping preserve and promote the history of the landmark through educational outreach, exhibits and special events.
Tickets are currently available for $45 in advance through June 9. If available after that date, admission will increase to $50. Designated driver tickets are available for $10. Admission includes beer tasting, live music, historic site tours and access to all event activities.
Because alcohol will be served, the event is restricted to guests 21 years of age and older. Identification will be checked at the door.
Organizers encourage attendees to purchase tickets early, as the event has become one of the area’s most anticipated annual fundraisers. Proceeds directly benefit educational programs at the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park, ensuring future generations can continue to learn about one of California’s most remarkable historic treasures.

Community support continues to play a major role in making the annual fundraiser possible. This year’s event is sponsored by Syblon Reid together with Folsom Times, Visit Folsom and Folsom Telegraph. Their support helps fuel the educational programs and interpretive efforts that allow thousands of visitors each year to experience the history of the Folsom Powerhouse and its significance to California.
