Saturday night belongs toThe Spazmatics, who take the stage at 10 p.m., bringing their signature geek-chic style and precision musicianship to Historic Folsom. Over the years, The Spazmatics have carved a national reputation as the definitive 80s experience, delivering interactive productions complete with synchronized choreography, crowd sing-alongs and era-defining anthems performed with infectious energy.

From Devo’s “Whip It” to Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf” and Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me With Science,” each song is recreated with tight detail and theatrical flair. Big hooks, synthesizer lines and arena-style choruses define the setlist as the band leans fully into the bold aesthetic of the decade.

The group’s fictional origin story traces back to the spring of 1983, when physics teacher Kevin Stigwood reportedly lost a String Theory debate and was compelled to perform at a high school basketball halftime show. With the help of electronics teacher Sydney Balderman, the band debuted under nerdy protest — and legend was born. Behind the playful backstory, however, is a polished touring brand developed by Perfect World Entertainment, with hand-selected lineups nationwide delivering the same over-the-top tribute to 1980s pop culture.

From Los Angeles to Nashville and now back in Folsom, each Spazmatics lineup is curated to maintain consistency in sound and spectacle. The performances channel the spirit of the decade that gave audiences big hair, synthesizers and sing-along choruses, evoking the cultural energy of films like The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Their shows function as fully staged recreations fused with humor, interaction and detail. Fans span generations, creating a multigenerational celebration where the dance floor rarely stays empty.
