Rancho Cordova’s free Friday Night Concerts continue at Village Green Park with one of the Sacramento area’s most versatile party bands
RANCHO CORDOVA — Rancho Cordova’s Friday Night Concerts return tonight with a band built to keep the dance floor moving, as Adam Aldama & The Aces take the stage at Village Green Park for the third installment of the city’s August concert series.
The high-energy five-piece Sacramento-area band will perform tonight, Aug. 21, bringing a wide-ranging mix of throwback hip-hop and R&B, pop, old-school favorites and Top 40 hits to the outdoor amphitheater.
Formed in March 2021 by frontman Adam Aldama, The Aces have quickly become a familiar name on the regional music scene. Since making their debut at Mango’s Nightclub in Sacramento, the group has performed throughout the Sacramento area and beyond at clubs, private events, festivals and community celebrations.
Their versatility has become a calling card. Rather than being tied to a single decade or genre, Adam Aldama & The Aces move through a broad catalog designed around recognizable songs and a lively stage show. Throwback hip-hop and R&B can give way to pop, old-school dance favorites and current or recent Top 40 hits, giving the band plenty of room to change directions throughout the night.
The lineup features Aldama on vocals alongside vocalist Veronica Ballejos, Brett Sackett on lead guitar, Keywan Ryland on drums and Jimmy O’Shea on bass.
Together, the five musicians have developed a performance style centered on dance, energy and crowd interaction, making tonight’s appearance a natural fit for the Friday Night Concerts series and its open-air setting.
Aldama has also become known throughout the region for a collection of themed tribute productions that showcase the band’s ability to jump between artists, decades and styles.
Those productions include The Red Corvettes, a tribute to Prince; Finesse, featuring the music of Bruno Mars; 2Bad, celebrating Michael Jackson; Y2K Live, centered around hits of the 2000s; and Night Fever, which turns the spotlight back to the disco era.
That variety gives audiences a good indication of what the musicians behind The Aces can deliver. From funk and R&B to pop and dance music, the band has built its identity around songs that audiences recognize and a performance designed to keep them engaged.
Tonight’s performance follows last Friday’s appearance by the Neon Playboys, who brought their own retro dance party to Village Green Park with a collection of favorites from the 1970s and ’80s. Class of ’85 opened the monthlong series Aug. 7.
The Friday Night Concerts are presented by the Cordova Community Council and offer a free community night out throughout August. The series combines live music, dancing and food in the amphitheater setting at Village Green Park, located at 3141 Bridgeway Drive in Rancho Cordova.
Organizers encourage concertgoers to come ready to dance and enjoy an evening outdoors while listening to some of the region’s popular live bands. Admission is free.
Food trucks are also part of the weekly festivities, with organizers announcing the individual food vendors for each concert through the event’s Facebook and Instagram channels.
The series has provided Rancho Cordova residents and visitors with a different musical experience each Friday this month. Class of ’85 kicked things off Aug. 7, followed by the Neon Playboys on Aug. 14 and Adam Aldama & The Aces tonight.
After tonight, there will be one more chance to enjoy the Friday Night Concerts this summer.
Mercy Me Band is scheduled to take the stage Friday, Aug. 28, closing out the four-week series at Village Green Park.
The concerts are among the community events and programs organized by the Cordova Community Council, which produces festivals, concerts and other gatherings throughout Rancho Cordova during the year.
For tonight, the focus turns to Aldama and his bandmates, whose ability to move from throwback R&B and hip-hop to pop, old-school favorites and dance hits should provide plenty of opportunities for the Village Green Park crowd to get out of their seats.
