Peter Morgan closes out Memorial Day weekend with Sunday Funday jazz on Lake Natoma
Crawdads on the Lake will bring a full weekend of country music to its scenic Lake Natoma venue as rising country artists Annie Bosko and Madison Hudson headline two days of live entertainment during Memorial Day weekend in Folsom.
The weekend begins Friday, May 22, with Annie Bosko performing from 9 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. at Crawdads on the Lake, 9900 Greenback Lane in Folsom. Tickets are $23.18 for the all-ages show. According to the event listing, all concerts are festival style, with patio seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Dinner reservations are highly recommended, and a ticket purchase does not guarantee dinner seating.
For country fans, Bosko’s arrival brings a performer with deep California roots and a sound shaped by traditional country, Central Valley grit and the kind of powerhouse vocals that have earned her attention from some of the genre’s biggest names. Raised in California’s Central Valley as a farmer’s daughter, Bosko has built her identity around the music, work ethic and wide-open landscapes that shaped her upbringing.
Bosko’s QHMG/Stone Country Records debut, California Cowgirl, is a 19-song collection that leans into Telecaster guitar, pedal steel, fiddle, shuffles, sweeping ballads and honky-tonk energy. The album features collaborations with Darius Rucker, Dwight Yoakam and Joe Nichols, while drawing from influences that include The Judds, Shania Twain, Deana Carter, Patty Loveless, Martina McBride, George Strait, Patsy Cline and the California country legacy of Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Gram Parsons, Highway 101 and Dwight Yoakam.
“I can ride a horse, a tractor and a surfboard,” Bosko said in the supplied artist biography. “And I know my country, because we lived it.”
That background is central to Bosko’s appeal. Her music carries the confidence of a singer-songwriter who understands both the tender and tough sides of country music, with songs that move from boot-stomping anthems to vulnerable ballads. Her “Country Girls! (Who Runs The World)” was written as what she calls “a girl hype song,” inspired by the grit and toughness she saw growing up around rodeo events.
Bosko has also drawn support from The Mavericks’ Raul Malo, 22-time Grammy winner Vince Gill and cowpunk icon Dwight Yoakam. Her career has included songs recorded by Willie Nelson and Jessica Simpson, tours with Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley and Blake Shelton, and a sold-out show at Los Angeles’ Troubadour. She first broke out with the SiriusXM and CMT favorite “Crooked Halo,” was named a Rolling Stone Country Artist to Watch and later made her late-night debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with “Neon Baby.”
Her Friday night show at Crawdads gives Folsom-area audiences a chance to see an artist helping bridge classic country roots with the modern women reshaping the genre.
The music continues Saturday, May 23, when Madison Hudson performs from 2 to 5 p.m. at Crawdads on the Lake. Saturday’s show is free and is listed as a live music, community, kids and family, food and drink event.
Hudson is known as a modern country singer with energetic performances that blend classic and contemporary country styles. Her music is built around a powerful voice and authentic storytelling, with songs that connect through themes of love, resilience and real-life experience.
As a singer-songwriter, Hudson draws from personal experiences and keeps her sound grounded in the kind of direct, relatable country music that has helped her connect with fans. Her performances balance stage energy with a down-to-earth presence, giving her shows a mix of polish, personality and crowd-friendly momentum.
Crawdads is billing Hudson’s return as one with plenty of energy, noting that she and her band are expected to “turn up the heat” Saturday afternoon. Sunday brings free show with Peter Morgan
The holiday weekend entertainment continues Sunday, May 24, when Peter Morgan takes the stage from 2 to 5 p.m. for Crawdads’ Sunday Funday event. Guests are invited to enjoy the lakeside atmosphere while taking in Morgan’s contemporary jazz sound overlooking Lake Natoma.
Morgan is known for his original contemporary jazz compositions that blend coastal smooth jazz with blues influences, creating a laid-back yet polished sound that fits naturally with the waterfront atmosphere at Crawdads.
A multi-instrumentalist and accomplished producer, Morgan has independently produced six albums and performs across a wide range of instruments including guitar, harmonica, bass, keyboards, lap steel, dobro, pedal steel, pan flute, ukulele, percussion and vocals.
Throughout his career, Morgan has shared the stage with artists including Fattburger, Michael McDonald, trumpeter Chris Botti and keyboardist Phillipe Saisse. He has also appeared at the Sacramento Jazz Festival, one of the world’s largest and most recognized jazz festivals.
Morgan’s experience extends into television and production work as well. He served as music director for nationally broadcast PBS specials including the Boston Computer Museum’s Computer Bowl and the Software Publishers Association’s 10th Annual Codie Awards, both featured on the series Computer Chronicles. More recently, his music has appeared on the WB Network series Hart of Dixie.
