One of Folsom’s newest neighborhood parks has earned regional recognition for its design, construction and community-driven planning process.
The City of Folsom announced this week that Prospector Park has been named the 2026 American Public Works Association Sacramento Chapter Project of the Year in the Parks and Trails category.
The annual award recognizes excellence in public works projects, honoring achievements in planning, design, construction, sustainability and collaboration among project partners.
According to the city, community involvement played a key role throughout the development of Prospector Park. Residents were invited to participate through public meetings, surveys and stakeholder outreach, helping shape the park’s amenities and overall design before construction began.
City officials said the result transformed what was once an undeveloped site into a neighborhood gathering place designed for residents of all ages, featuring spaces for recreation, play and community connection.
The city also recognized the collaborative effort behind the project, crediting Parks Planning Manager Brad Nelson, the Folsom Parks & Recreation team, consultants, contractors, city staff, elected officials and community members who contributed to bringing the park to completion.
City staff will be formally recognized for the achievement during an American Public Works Association Sacramento Chapter awards event later this month.
The announcement comes as Folsom recently joined communities nationwide in recognizing Parks Make Life Better! Month, an annual campaign highlighting the value parks and recreation programs provide to local communities.
