District administrators gather as final preparations ramp up across local schools for the start of the 2026–27 academic year
With the first day of school just over a week away, classrooms are being organized, campuses are coming back to life and school leaders across the Folsom Cordova Unified School District are making final preparations to welcome thousands of students back for the 2026–27 school year.
Students throughout the district are scheduled to return to class on Thursday, Aug. 6, marking the official start of a new academic year for schools serving Folsom, Rancho Cordova and surrounding communities.
As part of those preparations, district principals and site administrators gathered at the FCUSD District Office on July 17, where they were greeted by an enthusiastic welcome team from multiple district departments. Armed with pom-poms, smiles and plenty of encouragement, staff members welcomed both new and returning school leaders as they kicked off a series of planning meetings focused on opening day.
The gathering served as the district’s annual administrators meeting, providing school leaders with updated guidance, operational information, instructional resources and planning tools as they prepare to lead their campuses into the new school year.

While many families have been enjoying summer break, work has continued throughout the district in classrooms, offices and campuses. Custodial and maintenance crews have been preparing school facilities, technology teams have been updating equipment, curriculum staff have finalized instructional plans, and school administrators have been coordinating schedules, staffing and campus readiness.
District officials share that the welcoming event reflected the collaborative approach that helps prepare schools each year and set a positive tone as administrators return to their campuses to lead final preparations before students arrive.
The return of site leaders also signals one of the final milestones before campuses transition from summer maintenance to full back-to-school operations. Over the coming days, teachers will begin returning to classrooms, staff training will continue and campuses will welcome families for orientations, schedule pickups and other back-to-school activities.

For families, the countdown is now underway as backpacks are packed, school supplies are gathered and routines begin shifting back toward the classroom.
The first bell for the 2026–27 school year rings across the Folsom Cordova Unified School District on Thursday, Aug. 6, officially bringing summer break to a close and launching another year of learning for students throughout the community.
