Folsom Fire and Police departments teamed up with Vitalant to help meet critical blood needs
Residents rolled up their sleeves Wednesday as the Folsom Fire Department and Folsom Police Department faced off in the community’s Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, a friendly competition that transformed the Folsom Community Center into a hub of lifesaving activity.
Hosted in partnership with Vitalant, the event took place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Folsom Community Center on Natoma Street. Throughout the day, donors had the opportunity to cast a symbolic vote for either Folsom Fire or Folsom Police while making a blood donation that could help patients across the region.
The event combined hometown bragging rights with a serious mission. Blood donations remain essential for trauma patients, surgical procedures, emergency treatments and individuals battling illnesses that require regular transfusions. Representatives of Vitalant have emphasized the importance of maintaining a stable blood supply, particularly during the summer months when donation numbers often decline while demand remains steady.
Community members arrived throughout the day to support their favorite department while contributing to a cause that directly benefits local hospitals and patients in need. Whether votes were cast for firefighters or police officers, organizers noted that the true beneficiaries would be the individuals whose lives may ultimately be impacted by the donated blood.
As an added incentive, donors received a free Battle of the Badges T-shirt while supplies lasted. Participants also received a coupon for a complimentary Patty’s Petite Sundae from Leatherby’s Family Creamery as a thank-you for their contribution.
While the final vote count between the two departments had not yet been announced, the day’s effort helped strengthen the regional blood supply and served as another example of the community coming together for a common cause.
