Sacramento-area artist Beard Picker is continuing to build a name across the region with a sound grounded in authenticity, hard work and real-life storytelling, and this weekend that momentum brings him to lakside in Folsom.
Fronted by songwriter and vocalist Nick Bossio of nearby Orangevale, Beard Picker will perform as a duo alongside Kinda Odd this Sunday, May 3, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Crawdads on the Lake. The performance is free to attend and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, offering an accessible opportunity for the community to enjoy live music along the shoreline of Lake Natoma.
The show also marks the beginning of the venue’s Sunday afternoon live music season, a popular offering that brings a steady lineup of regional performers to the lakeside throughout the warmer months.
Bossio represents a growing wave of independent artists rooted in authenticity, grit and real-world storytelling. By day, he works construction across the Sacramento region. By night, he channels those long hours, physical labor and lived experiences into a brand of country music that resonates with blue-collar audiences. His songwriting often centers on themes of hard work, financial strain and perseverance—stories that feel lived-in rather than manufactured.
That dual identity is the foundation of Beard Picker’s sound. His songs reflect the realities many listeners know firsthand, capturing the rhythm of job sites, long days and the pursuit of something more. Rather than following a traditional industry path, his music is developed outside the mainstream system—written and recorded locally, often in DIY settings that mirror the life he sings about.
That approach is evident in Beard Picker’s growing catalog. Releases such asSafety Meeting Sessions, recorded with a full band in a raw, live-style environment, andLaid Off, a self-produced project focused on the highs and lows of working life, showcase both his range and commitment to keeping the music grounded in reality. Each project builds on the same core identity—unfiltered storytelling backed by stripped-down instrumentation.
On stage, Beard Picker brings that same authenticity, and in the duo format with Kinda Odd, the performance takes on an even more intimate feel. Together, they blend original material with covers that align with their style, including artists like Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers and Willie Nelson. The result is a set that leans into outlaw country roots while maintaining a modern, independent edge. With elements like acoustic-driven arrangements, harmonica and a back-porch feel, the experience is designed to connect rather than impress.
That connection has already begun to resonate locally. Beard Picker has appeared at venues throughout the Sacramento area, including stops in Historic Folsom, where audiences have responded to both the honesty of the music and the relatability of the performers on stage. Their presence continues to grow as more listeners gravitate toward artists who reflect their own experiences.
Beyond the music itself, Bossio stands out for what it represents. In an era where image is often curated, he leans into being exactly who he is—someone balancing work, life and a passion for music. That message has helped him build a following that extends beyond traditional country audiences, drawing in listeners who connect with the authenticity behind the songs.
For those wrapping up the weekend in Folsom, the show offers a chance to experience a rising local act whose music is built on real stories and real work. As Beard Picker continues to gain traction, each performance adds another layer to a career being constructed the same way as Bossio’s day job—one piece at a time, with consistency, effort and purpose.
Sunday afternoon at Crawdads on the Lake is the next step in that build.
