Saturday, Sunday offers educational exhibits, feeding demonstrations and family-friendly activities June 6-7 at the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary.
Visitors to the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary will have a chance to get a closer look at one of North America’s most iconic wildlife species this weekend as the sanctuary hosts its annual Black Bear Awareness Weekend on June 6 and 7.
The two-day event, held in recognition of National Black Bear Day, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day and will feature educational exhibits, interactive activities, special presentations and opportunities to learn more about the zoo sanctuary’s resident black bears.
Guests will be able to explore the zoo while stopping at educational stations focused on black bear behavior, habitat, conservation and the challenges bears face in the wild. Docents and staff will be available throughout the event to share information and answer questions about the species.
In addition to educational displays, visitors can watch special feeding sessions and training demonstrations that provide insight into the daily care and enrichment programs used to support the bears living at the sanctuary.
The event offers families and wildlife enthusiasts an opportunity to learn about the important role black bears play in ecosystems throughout North America while gaining a greater understanding of wildlife conservation efforts.
The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is home to several rescued black bears that serve as ambassadors for their species. Like many of the sanctuary’s animal residents, the bears arrived after circumstances prevented them from returning to the wild, allowing visitors to learn about wildlife rehabilitation and responsible stewardship.
Black Bear Awareness Weekend is designed to combine education and entertainment while helping visitors better understand how humans and wildlife can coexist safely and responsibly.
Visitors can wander through the zoo and stop at educational tables, hands-on activities and docent-led talks while learning about black bear behavior, habitat and conservation. The event will also feature special feedings and training demonstrations that offer an up-close look at how the zoo sanctuary cares for its bears.
The annual event shines a spotlight on the sanctuary’s beloved resident bears while celebrating National Black Bear Day, which recognizes the importance of black bear conservation and education throughout North America.
