Motorists experienced delays and lane closures on East Bidwell near US50 Thursday evening after a Jeep reportedly crossed the center median, sideswiped another vehicle and struck a light pole at the intersection of Iron Point Road, sending at least one person to the hospital.
The collision occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. at one of Folsom’s busiest intersections, drawing a response from the Folsom Fire Department and Folsom Police Department.
According to information from the scene, the Jeep crossed over the raised center median before sideswiping another vehicle and continuing into a light pole at the intersection. The impact caused significant damage to the pole.
The driver of the second vehicle was not injured in the collision. At least one occupant of the Jeep was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment. The extent of the person’s injuries was not immediately known Thursday night. Witnesses on scene reported that it appeared the male driver of the Jeep may have suffered a medical emergency.

Multiple units from the Folsom Police Department also responded, securing the scene while officers investigated the collision, directed traffic around the crash scene and coordinated the removal of the damaged vehicles.
Because the collision damaged the light pole officers were expected to remain at the intersection for an extended period while crews assessed the damage and ensured the signals were functioning properly before normal traffic operations resumed.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Folsom Police Department. No additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash have been released.
