Free night of country music offers line dancing lessons, kickstarts full weekend of talent
Country Thursdays return to Historic Folsom this week with a performance by the Billy Williams Band, bringing a blend of heartfelt songwriting, crowd connection and high-energy country sound to Powerhouse Pub.
The March 26 event begins with free line dance lessons at 7 p.m., followed by live music at 8 p.m., continuing a weekly tradition that has become a staple for country fans and dancers alike. Admission is free, and seating is first come, first served.
Led by singer-songwriter Billy Williams, the band delivers a dynamic live show rooted in authentic country storytelling and audience engagement. The music and momentum continue into the weekend as Powerhouse Pub rolls into a packed slate of live entertainment beginning Friday, March 27 with the TGIF Early Show featuring Amped Up 80s at 6:30 p.m. Known for their high-octane performances, the band delivers a full-throttle throwback to one of music’s most iconic decades, blending rock-driven guitar work with powerful vocals and nonstop energy. Their setlist is packed with recognizable 80s hits, creating a lively atmosphere that invites guests to lean into the era with big hair, neon, spandex and sing-along anthems that defined a generation.
Later Friday night, the groove shifts into a deeper, dance-driven experience as Midnight Players take the stage at 10 p.m. A longtime staple of the Sacramento music scene, the band has been performing since 1977 and continues to draw dedicated crowds with its blend of old school R&B, funk, Latin and classic dance hits spanning multiple decades. With founding members Rudy Betancourt on saxophone and Michael Sellars on keyboards still leading the charge, the group brings decades of experience and a polished sound that keeps audiences on their feet.
Their performances feature music from artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & the Gang, Chaka Khan, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Cameo and many more, creating a nonstop dance environment fueled by rhythm, horns and crowd familiarity. Saturday, March 28 begins with the Saturday Afternoon Dance Party featuring Incognito at 3 p.m., offering an early start to the day with live music in a relaxed, social atmosphere. Known locally for their versatile sound and dance-friendly sets, Incognito provides a perfect lead-in to the evening’s high-energy lineup.
Saturday night then jumps forward into the 2000s as Y2K Live (2000’s Hits) takes over at 10 p.m., delivering a nostalgic party built around the biggest hits of the early millennium. From pop and hip-hop favorites by Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez to high-energy tracks from Lil Jon, Usher, Will Smith, Smash Mouth and Blink-182, the show taps into a generation of music that defined the early 2000s.
The performance is designed as a full throwback experience, pairing recognizable hits with a lively crowd atmosphere, multiple bars, DJ support on the patio and added elements like Big Rob’s cigar and hookah lounge, creating a multi-layered nightlife experience inside and outside the venue.
The weekend concludes Sunday, March 29 with the Powerhouse of Blues series featuring Shana Morrison at 3 p.m., bringing a dynamic blend of blues, rock, pop and soul to the Historic Folsom stage. Known for her wide-ranging voice and genre-crossing style, Morrison has built a career that draws from multiple influences while maintaining a sound uniquely her own.
The daughter of legendary Northern Irish artist Van Morrison, she began her career in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1990s before expanding to international touring, including performances alongside her father. Over the years, she has shared billing with artists such as Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker and Dr. John, and has performed at major festivals including the San Francisco Blues Festival and the Cork Jazz Festival.
Her live performances are known for their versatility, blending original material with select interpretations of classic songs, often including some of her father’s most well-known work. The result is a rich, expressive show that brings together elements of blues, jazz, R&B and rock in a way that resonates with a wide audience.
