City meeting Aug. 27 will give Briggs Ranch property owners and residents a chance to weigh in on neighborhood maintenance priorities as the district faces a long-term funding shortfall
Briggs Ranch property owners and residents will have an opportunity next week to weigh in on the future of neighborhood landscaping, lighting and other maintenance services as the City of Folsom begins a community outreach process addressing a long-running funding shortfall in the district.
The city will host a community meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in the Folsom City Hall Council Chambers, 50 Natoma St. City staff will provide an overview of the Briggs Ranch Landscaping and Lighting District, its current financial condition and the services supported by the district.
The Briggs Ranch district is one of 30 landscaping and lighting districts within Folsom. Such districts provide funding for maintenance of neighborhood improvements that specifically benefit properties within their boundaries. Depending on the district, those services can include landscaping, irrigation, trails, walls, fences, neighborhood entry features, signage, lighting and related maintenance.
In Briggs Ranch, the annual assessment is currently $122.28 per single-family home. According to the city, that assessment has remained unchanged since 1989 and is no longer sufficient to cover the district’s maintenance and operating expenses.
Over the years, rising labor, material and utility costs, combined with the expense of maintaining aging infrastructure, have contributed to a long-term funding shortfall.
Rather than immediately moving toward a specific solution, city officials are beginning with community outreach to better understand what Briggs Ranch property owners and residents consider their priorities for neighborhood services.
At the Aug. 27 meeting, residents will be able to ask questions about the district and provide feedback about maintenance needs and service priorities. The city is also seeking input on how residents prefer to receive information about the district as discussions continue.
Feedback gathered during the outreach process will be used to help city staff better understand community priorities and evaluate potential options for the district moving forward.
