The Folsom club was named one of just four Large Private Facility winners nationwide in the USTA’s 2026 Outstanding Facility Awards program, which recognizes excellence in tennis facility construction, renovation, amenities and programming.

Broadstone was honored alongside ITP Training Academy in Atlanta, Midtown Athletic Club in Weston, Florida, and The Courts in Cape Coral, Florida.

Award recipients were recognized Aug. 31 during a reception at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, home of the US Open.

For Broadstone, the honor puts a national spotlight on a facility that has become a significant part of Folsom’s recreational and tennis community. The club features 20 LED-lighted tennis courts along with junior development programs, adult league competition and specialized group clinics serving players across a range of ages and skill levels.

“This national recognition from the USTA reflects our team’s ongoing commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for our members and players,” said Doug Atkinson, director of tennis at Broadstone Sports Club. “From expanding our junior development programs to maintaining top-tier court facilities, our goal has always been to build a passionate, inclusive tennis community right here in Folsom.”

The USTA Outstanding Facility Awards recognize facilities not only for the quality of their courts, but also for how they serve players and help grow participation in the sport.

Judges evaluate nominees based on overall layout and adaptation to the site, quality of court surfaces and lighting, ease of maintenance, accommodations for players and spectators, aesthetics, signage and landscaping. Amenities such as spectator seating, food service and social areas are also considered, along with a facility’s participation in grassroots tennis programs.

Broadstone’s selection reflects both the quality of its physical facilities and its role in developing tennis participation locally and regionally.

“Facilities like Broadstone Sports Club are the foundation of tennis in America. Their commitment to creating welcoming, inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience the sport exemplifies what it means to grow the game at the grassroots level,” said Theodore Loehrke, managing director and head of section partnerships for the USTA. “Their work is helping to ensure tennis continues to thrive in their community.”

The distinction is particularly notable for the region. While California facilities have been recognized in other categories, Broadstone is the first large facility in Northern California to receive the award.

The USTA divides its Outstanding Facility Awards among several categories. Public facilities are recognized as either small tennis centers with two to 11 courts or large centers with 12 or more. Private facilities are similarly divided by size and must offer USTA and public programming designed to help grow participation in tennis.

Educational facilities, including colleges, universities and K-12 campuses, are recognized separately, while an Innovation category honors facilities that have introduced particularly creative approaches to delivering and expanding tennis opportunities.

Broadstone was one of three California facilities recognized in the 2026 awards. Peninsula Tennis Club in Burlingame was selected in the Small Private Facilities category, while Stanford University’s Arrillaga Tennis Center received recognition among Educational Institutions.

The national program recognized dozens of facilities across the country this year, ranging from municipal tennis centers and private clubs to high school and university complexes. Forked Lightning Racquet Club in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was named the 2026 Featured Facility of the Year.
