Community members invited to June 10 event ahead of October return of Thunderbirds, night show at Mather Airport

MATHER – The countdown to the 2026 California Capital Airshow is underway, and organizers are calling on the community to help bring one of the region’s largest annual events to life.

The California Capital Airshow, presented by Sacramento County in partnership with the City of Rancho Cordova, will host a Volunteer Rally on Wednesday, June 10, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Hangar 6 at Mather Airport, located at 10420 Truemper Way. The event is designed for prospective, past and current volunteers interested in learning more about this year’s airshow and the many opportunities to get involved.

Organizers said the rally will include a catered taco dinner, trivia and games, while giving attendees a chance to connect with team leaders and fellow volunteers ahead of the highly anticipated October event. Those who bring another prospective volunteer to the rally will also receive an extra raffle entry for a chance to win special prizes.

More than 1,000 community volunteers help support the California Capital Airshow each year, assisting with a wide range of duties that help operate the large-scale event. This year’s airshow is scheduled for Oct. 10 and 11 at Mather Airport and will feature the return of the fan-favorite night show, along with performances by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and a lineup of civilian and military aerial performers.

“This is going to be our most exciting Airshow yet. The night show is returning bigger than ever, and California Capital Airshow is celebrating 20 years of inspiring young people across the Sacramento region,” said Darcy Brewer, CEO of California Capital Airshow. “Our incredible volunteers are the engine behind everything we do, and we can’t wait to give them a front-row seat to what’s coming.”

The organization is seeking volunteers age 18 and older to assist during the two-day event in October. Volunteers will receive meals, water, a commemorative “Airshow Crew” T-shirt and the opportunity to work behind the scenes at one of the Sacramento region’s signature events while supporting the nonprofit organization’s educational and community outreach mission.
