Choose Folsom event celebrates launch of new interactive news app, growth of locally owned and operated media company
A large crowd gathered in Historic Folsom Thursday evening as community members, business leaders, elected officials and regional dignitaries came together to celebrate a major milestone for Folsom Times: the official launch of the new Folsom Times mobile app.
Attendees filled Uncle Charlie’s Firehouse Brew and spilled into the surrounding Historic Folsom Plaza as the community joined the Folsom Chamber of Commerce in recognizing both the growth of Folsom Times and the launch of a new expansion designed to help keep residents informed, connected and engaged for years to come.
The event, presented in partnership with the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, served not only as a celebration of the growth and success of Folsom Times but also as the official unveiling of a growing suite of community-focused technologies that includes the new Folsom Times app, Folsom TV, LoopCast digital signage, interactive trivia platforms and one of the region’s largest connected locally operated community event calendars. The expansion not only offers more for readers, it brings many expanded advertising opportunities for businesses and organizations with it.
With the launch, Folsom Times becomes the first locally owned and locally operated community news organization in the region to offer its own dedicated mobile application, bringing local news, events, entertainment coverage, breaking news alerts and more directly to readers through both Apple and Android devices.
The evening’s festivities included an official ribbon cutting ceremony presented by the Folsom Chamber of Commerce.
“For some time now the chamber has wanted to celebrate Folsom Times with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony, initially we held off on that until we really got up and running and when knew we were here to stay, its safe to say we are here to stay after just over three years and tremendous support from the community that has us a sustainable resource for many years to come,” said Bill Sullivan, co-owner of Folsom Times and All Town Media with Adam Frick.
“We wanted to do this in a way that was fun for the community, our offices in Folsom and Rancho Cordova are not exciting by any means so by teaming up with Uncle Charlie’s Firehouse Brew and holding this at their place and in the plaza was perfect and we can’t thank them enough along with Plank Craft Kitchen and Visconti’s Ristorante who graciously assisted with the catering.”
Prior to the official ribbon cutting, Folsom Chamber of Commerce CEO Joe Gagliardi addressed attendees, speaking about the success and growth of Folsom Times and its importance not only to the Chamber but to the community as a whole through its ongoing efforts to keep residents informed about local news, events, businesses and civic affairs.
Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting, several dignitaries took the stage to recognize the accomplishment and offer congratulations on behalf of their respective offices. Among those participating were Sacramento County Supervisor Rosario Rodriguez, State Senator Roger Niello, Assemblymember Josh Hoover and Congressman Kevin Kiley.
Building New Ways to Connect Folsom
The celebration then shifted focus to the official launch of the Folsom Times app, which is now available for download through both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
However, the mobile app represents only one piece of a much larger effort that has quietly been underway behind the scenes over the past year as Folsom Times and Folsom TV have expanded beyond traditional local journalism and invested in technology designed to help residents stay better connected with their community.
Among the biggest accomplishments is the creation of a new community calendar ecosystem that makes it easier than ever for organizations, businesses and event promoters to share their events with the public. Instead of entering the same information on multiple websites, promoters can now manage events from one central location while publishers can easily connect and display those events on their own websites through custom-built WordPress plugins.
The result is a growing network of connected calendars that has become one of the largest event platforms in the region, helping more people discover local activities, fundraisers, concerts, business events and community gatherings.
In addition to the calendar system, several other tools were developed throughout the year, including native mobile apps for Apple and Android devices, the LoopCast digital signage platform, interactive games, local trivia experiences and new ways for readers to save and share articles through downloadable PDFs.
Together, these technologies create multiple ways for residents to stay informed whether they’re reading the news, using the mobile app, visiting a local business displaying LoopCast, watching Folsom TV or searching for upcoming events.
“We’ve always believed that great communities are built through connections,” said Adam Frick. “Our goal has never been to simply build software. We’re building tools that help people discover what’s happening around them, support local organizations and make it easier for our community to stay connected. We’re incredibly excited about what this means for Folsom and where we can take it in the future.”

Guests at Thursday’s celebration also received an interactive demonstration of the newly launched and reimagined Folsom TV platform, which expands the company’s digital reach beyond mobile devices and web browsers to television screens through Amazon Fire TV, Roku and other streaming platforms.
The platform features local news, community events, entertainment programming, interactive games, on-screen trivia and live trivia experiences that can be customized for local businesses and venues. Company representatives said the new technology has already generated interest from several area businesses seeking to incorporate the interactive entertainment and information platform into their establishments.
As attendees watched demonstrations throughout the evening, they were able to see firsthand how the various platforms work together to create an interconnected local information network designed specifically for the communities served by Folsom Times.

The launch represents the latest evolution for Folsom Times, which has grown from a startup community news outlet into one of the region’s most widely read local news organizations in just over three years.
As these platforms continue to grow, the mission remains unchanged: making it easier for people to know what’s happening in Folsom while creating more opportunities for residents, businesses and organizations to connect with one another and strengthen the community.
