A timeless fairytale filled with magic, humor and heart is opening this weekend in Historic Folsom as Sutter Street Theatre raises the curtain on its newest family production of Cinderella.

Opening Saturday, May 23, the beloved classic arrives on stage in an original adaptation by Laura Luke, who also directs the production. The family-friendly show will run through June 21 with weekend matinee performances designed for audiences of all ages.

Known for her longtime work with Sutter Street Theatre and its family productions, Luke’s adaptation of Cinderella blends the familiar fairytale story with humor, heartfelt moments and expanded ensemble characters that have become a signature of the theater’s youth and family programming.

The production follows the story of Cinderella, whose difficult life with her cruel Stepmother and Stepsisters changes after a magical encounter with her Fairy Godmother. Through a little courage, kindness and belief, Cinderella’s world begins to transform in ways that audiences have cherished for generations.

“This adaptation of Cinderella will touch your heart; make you laugh and remind you that anything is possible if you just believe,” the theater shared in announcing the production.

The show continues Sutter Street Theatre’s tradition of staging classic family entertainment in the heart of Historic Folsom, where generations of local families have introduced children to live theater through productions ranging from fairy tales and musicals to comedies and holiday favorites.
