Weekend display honors volunteers, donors and lifesaving mission
The City of Folsom will join communities nationwide this weekend in recognizing Red Cross Month, illuminating the Johnny Cash Bridge in red as a tribute to the volunteers, donors and partners who support the American Red Cross.
The bridge, located along Folsom Lake Crossing, will glow red on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., offering a striking visual display that highlights the organization’s ongoing humanitarian efforts.
“Observed every March, Red Cross Month honors those who help carry out the mission of the American Red Cross — individuals who turn compassion into action by assisting others during emergencies and times of need,” said Stephen Walsh, Communications Director for the American Red Cross California Gold Country Region. “The tradition dates back to 1943, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first official proclamation recognizing the organization’s vital contributions.”
Local residents are encouraged to take part in the celebration by visiting the bridge during the evening hours, where they can walk the span and take in the red illumination. The event also serves as an opportunity for the community to reflect on the importance of service and support for those impacted by disasters and emergencies.
Community members are invited to get involved in the Red Cross mission by volunteering, donating blood, learning lifesaving skills or making financial contributions. Additional information on how to participate is available at redcross.org.
Attendees are also encouraged to share their experience by posting photos and videos from the event on social media and tagging @arcgoldcountry.
