Families looking for free summer entertainment under the stars will have three opportunities to enjoy movies, activities, and community fun as the City of Folsom’s Parks & Recreation Department launches its annual Summer Movie Nights series.
The popular program brings family-friendly films to some of Folsom’s most popular community venues throughout the summer. Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for outdoor viewing. Each event will feature themed activities before the movie begins, with free access to the host facility starting at 6:30 p.m. Movies are scheduled to begin at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The series kicks off Friday, June 19, with a screening of Kicking & Screaming at the Andy Morin Sports Complex, located at 66 Clarksville Road. Unlike the other screenings in the series, this event will be held indoors on the facility’s synthetic turf field in the comfort of an air-conditioned environment. The family comedy starring Will Ferrell follows an overly competitive father who takes over coaching his son’s youth soccer team, making it a fitting choice for the sports complex setting.
Movie Night returns Friday, July 17, with the acclaimed animated adventure The Wild Robot. The screening will take place at the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary and adjacent Kuntz Memorial Field baseball complex, giving families an opportunity to enjoy one of the city’s most unique outdoor settings before settling in for the film. Based on the bestselling novel, The Wild Robot tells the story of a robot stranded on an uninhabited island who learns to adapt and connect with the animals around her.
The summer series concludes Saturday, Aug. 2, with Surf’s Up at the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center, located at 1200 Riley Street. The animated comedy follows a young penguin who dreams of becoming a champion surfer and provides a fitting finale to the summer program at one of Folsom’s favorite warm-weather destinations.
The free events are designed to provide affordable family entertainment while showcasing some of the city’s recreational facilities and gathering spaces. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early to enjoy the themed activities and facility access offered before each movie begins.
