Sacramento-area band delivers dance-floor favorites from Duran Duran, INXS, The Cure and more in Orangevale
If the mom in your life still turns up Duran Duran, INXS or The Cure, The Boardwalk may have the perfect Mother’s Day weekend soundtrack Saturday night as Class of 85 returns with a full evening of iconic ’80s New Wave hits.
Taking the stage May 9 at 8 p.m., the Sacramento-area band brings its crowd-favorite tribute show to Orangevale one night before Mother’s Day, creating the perfect excuse to hit the dance floor and relive the music that defined a generation.
Known for recreating the unmistakable sound and atmosphere of classic ’80s New Wave, Class of 85 builds its performances around iconic songs from artists such as Duran Duran, The Cure, INXS and The Smiths. The result is a high-energy show packed with recognizable hooks, shimmering guitar tones, synth-driven rhythms and singalong choruses that instantly transport audiences back to the era of cassette tapes, MTV and packed dance clubs.
Rather than focusing on one specific artist, the band delivers a broad celebration of the decade’s most influential sounds, moving seamlessly between upbeat dance favorites and emotionally driven ballads that helped define the period.
Class of 85 has become known throughout the Sacramento region for energetic performances that lean heavily into audience engagement and crowd interaction. Their shows are designed as experiences as much as concerts, encouraging audiences to dance, sing along and fully embrace the nostalgia tied to decades of memories.
Whether it’s couples planning a retro-inspired date night, groups of friends gathering for a night out, or families looking for something different to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend, the show is positioned to deliver an atmosphere centered on fun, familiarity and timeless music.
The band regularly performs at festivals, concerts and special events throughout Northern California and has developed a reputation for adapting performances to fit the occasion, often tailoring portions of its setlist and presentation to match the crowd and energy of the night.
Saturday’s nostalgic throwback also fits naturally inside one of the Sacramento region’s most established live music venues. Located at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, The Boardwalk has hosted generations of live performances ranging from touring national acts and tribute shows to local showcases and themed events.
Its intimate layout and close proximity to the stage make it especially well-suited for interactive, crowd-driven performances like Class of 85, where audience participation becomes part of the experience.
For fans of neon-era nostalgia, synth-pop rhythms and dance-floor classics, Saturday night promises a full-scale throwback to one of music’s most unforgettable decades.
The show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 9 and is open to all ages with a parent or guardian required for those under 21.
