Days after a fire tore through a mobile home on Parkstone Way in Folsom, friends and community members are rallying around the woman who lived there as she faces the task of clearing the property, replacing her belongings and finding a new place to call home.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established for Janeen Silliman Goebel, whose home was heavily damaged in the Sept. 26 fire. Goebel was not home when the fire broke out and was not injured, but fundraiser organizer Diana Rich said her friend lost virtually all of her belongings in the blaze.
“On the morning of September 26th, my dear friend Janeen Silliman Goebel suffered a devastating fire that destroyed her mobile home in Folsom, California,” Rich wrote on the fundraiser page. She said the home was a place Goebel loved and the surrounding community meant a great deal to her.
The fundraiser, titled “Help Janeen Rebuild After Devastating Fire,” has set an $8,000 goal. As of Thursday, Oct. 1, it had raised $4,000 through 16 donations.
According to Rich, one of the most immediate expenses Goebel faces is the demolition and removal of the damaged mobile home, along with debris disposal and cleanup of the property. Money raised beyond those expenses will be used to replace necessities and help Goebel begin finding another place to live. Rich said all contributions will go directly to Goebel.

The fundraiser followed Saturday morning’s fire in the 600 block of Parkstone Way. The Sacramento Regional Fire Emergency Communication Center dispatched the Folsom Fire Department at approximately 8:35 a.m. Sept. 26. Engine 36 arrived first and encountered a double-wide mobile home with heavy fire involvement.
According to the Folsom Fire Department, the fire appeared to have started in the backyard before spreading into the living room and adjacent bedrooms while also threatening a neighboring residence. Engine 39, which had recently returned to service after being browned out for approximately 10 months, arrived second and assisted with the water supply, exterior fire attack and protection of the neighboring home.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control within eight minutes and initially estimated fire damage at approximately 40 percent of the home’s living space. A primary search confirmed no one was inside, and no firefighter injuries were reported. Metro Fire of Sacramento and the Folsom Police Department also assisted with the response.
While firefighters were able to stop the flames from consuming the entire structure and spreading to a neighboring home, the fundraiser describes the aftermath for Goebel as a loss of her home and virtually everything she had inside it.
Preliminary evidence from the Folsom Fire Department indicated an exterior electrical hazard may have caused the fire. Arson investigators were continuing to investigate the incident following the fire to determine the official cause.
Rich said those unable to contribute financially can still help by sharing the fundraiser with others who may know Goebel or want to assist.
