Folsom residents will have another opportunity to turn unused and needed household items into help for others when the Community Service Day Donation Drive returns Saturday, Sept. 19, at Lakeside Church.
The drive will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Lakeside Church, 745 Oak Avenue Parkway, as part of Folsom’s 13th annual Community Service Day.
Community members are invited to drop off a wide range of needed items that will benefit local and regional organizations serving children, families, veterans, people experiencing homelessness and pets in need.
Among the items being collected are bicycles for children and adults, eyeglasses, yarn and fabric, and new or like-new children’s books and suitcases. Organizers are also seeking new toys, small gift cards and other gifts for children and teenagers.
Donations of new or gently used purses are being accepted, along with makeup, jewelry, hygiene products and other essentials. Pet food and supplies are also needed, as are clothing, hygiene products and other basic necessities.
Additional requested donations include new rolls of Christmas wrapping paper, new or gently used coats, school supplies and new or gently used formal dresses.
The annual donation drive provides residents with a way to participate in Community Service Day while helping nonprofit organizations and community programs replenish supplies they distribute throughout the year.
The collection is one component of the 13th annual Folsom Community Service Day, the city’s largest annual day of volunteerism. Each year, thousands of volunteers come together at locations throughout Folsom to complete projects designed to benefit neighborhoods, schools, parks, nonprofit organizations and other areas of the community.
This year’s Community Service Day takes place Sept. 19, with volunteers participating in numerous projects across the city in addition to the donation drive.
