Veteran law enforcement leader brings more than 26 years of experience to new role

RANCHO CORDOVA — The Rancho Cordova Police Department has announced the appointment of Quis Formoli as its new assistant chief of police, bringing more than 26 years of law enforcement experience and a wide-ranging background in public safety operations, investigations and executive leadership.

Formoli’s career spans multiple divisions, including patrol, investigations, custody operations, communications and leadership roles at the executive level. Throughout his tenure in law enforcement, he has taken on specialized assignments in child abuse investigations, homicide cases and the Special Investigations Bureau, where he managed complex cases involving human trafficking and illicit operations.

In addition to his investigative work, Formoli has held key leadership roles overseeing Internal Affairs, the Main Jail, the county’s 9-1-1 communications center, patrol operations and regional public safety and contract services. His recent work includes leading a significant expansion of the Explosive Detection K9 program at Folsom Dam, growing the unit from two to ten dogs to enhance regional security capabilities.

He also played a role in securing additional funding to expand Regional Transit security services, helping develop a team of security officers and a dedicated supervisor aimed at improving safety and reliability across the transit system.

Formoli holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management and a master’s degree in organizational leadership, reflecting a continued commitment to professional development and strategic leadership in public safety.

The appointment carries personal significance for Formoli, who has longstanding ties to the Rancho Cordova community. After immigrating from the Middle East, his family settled in the area, where he was raised and later graduated from Rancho Cordova High School.

As he steps into his new role, Formoli emphasized his connection to the community and his focus on service.

In his position as assistant chief, Formoli will focus on supporting department personnel, strengthening partnerships within the community and advancing public safety initiatives throughout Rancho Cordova.
