Chico-based band brings multi-era setlist Friday, followed by Saturday metal showcase led by Parabellum
A diverse weekend of live music is set to take over The Boardwalk as two very different, but equally high-energy shows bring audiences from across the region to the Orangevale venue.
The weekend begins Friday, April 10 with Decades, a Chico-based band known for its genre-spanning performances, before shifting gears Saturday night into a heavy metal showcase featuring Parabellum, Unprovoked, Lysol Toast and Emerther.
Together, the two nights highlight the wide-ranging lineup that has made The Boardwalk a staple of the regional live music scene.
Decades brings decades of hits to the stage Friday night
Formed in 2010, Decades has spent more than a decade building a reputation as one of California’s most versatile and in-demand live bands. The Chico-based group has performed more than 1,000 shows across the West Coast, developing a following through its ability to deliver a wide-ranging setlist that spans from the 1940s to modern hits.
Rather than sticking to one genre or era, the band is known for crafting performances that move seamlessly across generations of music, creating a dynamic experience that keeps audiences engaged throughout the night.
A defining element of Decades’ live show is its musical versatility. Band members rotate between a wide array of instruments—including saxophone, harmonica, penny whistle, accordion and trumpet—while also handling guitar, bass, drums and keys. Combined with four-part vocal harmonies, the result is a full, layered sound that allows the group to adapt to virtually any style.
That flexibility has helped the band secure a number of notable performances over the years, including appearances at AT&T Park, the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco and the Francis Ford Coppola Winery. They have also performed at fundraisers for the Oakland Raiders, completed a five-year run of shows in the Hawaiian Islands and delivered a Fourth of July rooftop performance at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.
In addition, Decades has shared stages with well-known acts such as Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles and The Drifters, further solidifying its reputation as a band capable of connecting with a wide variety of audiences.
The group has also recorded three albums, two of which were produced by Grammy-nominated producer Sylvia Massy, known for her work with artists including Prince, Johnny Cash and Tool.
Friday’s show begins at 8 p.m. and is open to all ages with a parent or guardian required for those under 21.
Parabellum leads Saturday night metal showcase at The Boardwalk
The energy shifts dramatically Saturday, April 11 as Parabellum headlines a night of heavy music alongside Unprovoked, Lysol Toast and Emerther, delivering a lineup rooted in thrash, metalcore and modern metal influences.
Parabellum brings a sound grounded in classic thrash metal while incorporating its own modern edge. Known for blending aggressive riffs with lyrical themes centered on rebellion, resilience and resistance, the band has carved out a presence in a genre experiencing renewed interest among both longtime fans and newer audiences.

Building on the legacy of thrash pioneers, Parabellum’s performances are defined by intensity and energy, echoing the era when mosh pits were a central part of the live experience and audiences connected through the raw power of the music.
Joining the bill is Unprovoked, a band with deep roots in the Northern California metal scene dating back to 1990. Originally formed in Auburn, the group gained recognition performing alongside acts such as Vio-Lence, Machine Head and Bonded by Blood before disbanding in 1995.
After a two-decade hiatus, Unprovoked reunited in 2015, bringing new life to their sound and reestablishing themselves as a force in the regional metal community. Since returning, they have continued to build momentum, releasing their debut albumOut of the Ashesin 2019 and continuing to perform across the region.

Also taking the stage is Lysol Toast, whose presence adds to the night’s heavy and aggressive tone, along with Emerther, a newer Sacramento-based metal act formed in 2024. Emerther blends blistering solos and heavy grooves with a high-energy stage presence designed to engage audiences and deliver a full-throttle live performance.
Together, the lineup creates a multi-generational metal showcase, combining veteran acts with emerging bands and offering a night built around intensity, musicianship and raw sound.
Saturday’s show begins at 8 p.m. and is open to all ages with a parent or guardian required for those under 21.
Located at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, The Boardwalk continues to serve as one of the region’s most recognized live music venues, hosting a wide range of performances from tribute acts and touring artists to local showcases across multiple genres.
