Fire officials said the vehicle rolled away from the driver, who attempted to stop it and became trapped underneath. Firefighters arriving at the scene assessed the situation, stabilized the vehicle and began an extrication operation to free the driver.

Crews from El Dorado Hills’ Engine 84, Battalion 85, Rescue 87, Truck 85 and Medic 85 worked together during the rescue and safely extricated the patient from beneath the vehicle, according to the department.

After being freed, the patient was treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local trauma center for further evaluation and treatment. The department did not release additional information about the patient’s condition or identify the location where the incident occurred.

Fire officials used the incident as a reminder of the dangers posed by an unattended or unsecured vehicle, particularly when someone attempts to physically stop a vehicle that has begun moving.

The department urged drivers to make sure their vehicle is fully placed in park and the parking brake is engaged before exiting. Officials also cautioned people against attempting to stop a moving vehicle with their body.

The El Dorado Hills Fire Department credited the coordinated response of its engine, truck, rescue, battalion and medic crews with safely freeing the trapped driver and getting the patient into the care of medical professionals.
