Crews respond to growing El Dorado County fire near Holland Drive as additional engines, aircraft and hand crews are ordered
PLACERVILLE — A vegetation fire burning near Placerville prompted mandatory evacuation orders Wednesday evening as crews responded to the Holland Fire in El Dorado County.
The fire was reported in the area of the 2000 block of Holland Drive near Placerville and was listed as activel shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3. By shortly after 6 p.m., the fire had grown to an estimated 6 acres, with no containment figure posted.
A mandatory Level 3 “Go” evacuation order was in place for the Placerville Perimeter Zone, including the area of Holland Drive, Buzzards Pass Road and Parleys Canyon Road, according to an update attributed to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at 6:28 p.m. Residents were directed to evacuate the area using Mosquito South to Placerville.
A temporary evacuation point was established at the Placerville Library. Residents leaving the area were urged to drive safely and watch for emergency responders working in the area.

The evacuation order followed earlier requests for evacuations from Holland Drive south to Wasatch Road and from Holland Drive south to Parleys Canyon Road, according to incident updates. Three additional hand crews had also been ordered as firefighters worked the fire in brush and timber.
Early updates showed the fire at about 1 acre, burning uphill in brush at a moderate rate of spread. Within minutes, the fire had grown to approximately 4 acres, burning in heavy brush and timber.tiens
Incident command requested aircraft, five CAL FIRE engines, three closest available engines for a total of eight engines, and three water tenders.
By 5:56 p.m., the fire was estimated at 6 to 7 acres in timber understory and was aligned with the slope, with one immediate structure threat reported, according to air attack. A later update listed the fire at 6 acres.

The Holland Fire was burning in a rural area of El Dorado County where heavy brush, timber and slope-driven fire behavior can quickly challenge firefighting efforts. Camera images from the area showed a visible smoke column rising from a wooded area as crews moved resources into the incident.
No injuries or confirmed structure losses had been reported in the initial updates available at the time this article was prepared. The cause of the fire had not been reported.
Residents near the affected area should monitor official evacuation information from El Dorado County emergency officials, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, CAL FIRE and local fire agencies. Anyone near the fire area should avoid the response zone, keep roads clear for emergency equipment and leave immediately if ordered.
This is a developing story and will be updated as additional confirmed information becomes available.
