Officer-involved shooting follows report of gunfire at utility crew

EL DORADO COUNTY — A PG&E employee, two El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies and a suspect were all injured in a shooting Wednesday morning after deputies responded to reports that a utility crew had come under fire at a residence in the Camino area.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 7:25 a.m. to a residence on Mountain View Drive after receiving a report that a Pacific Gas and Electric crew had been shot at while working in the area.

Authorities said one PG&E employee was struck by gunfire before deputies arrived. According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting of the two deputies and the suspect took place approximately three hours after patrol officers, together with SWAT personnel were still attempting to escalate the situation following the initial shooting response.

While deputies were on scene investigating the report, an officer-involved shooting occurred involving the suspect. During the exchange, two deputies and the suspect were shot, according to the sheriff’s office.

All three were transported by medical personnel to area hospitals for treatment. The injured PG&E employee was also taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately released.

The sheriff’s office said the situation remains an active scene as investigators continue to process evidence and secure the area. Law enforcement personnel are expected to remain in the vicinity of Mountain View Drive while the investigation continues.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the suspect or the deputies involved, and no additional details about what led to the shooting have been made public.

El Dorado County Sgt. Jesse Decanay spoke with media briefly Wednesday afternoon. Decanay said both deputies that were shot are now in stable condition. The condition of the suspect and the PG&E worker have not been updated but both were transported.

Residents in the area may continue to see a heightened law enforcement presence while investigators work the scene.
