Jiamo Chen, 43, of Fair Oaks was arrested Sept. 30 following an investigation by detectives with the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force. Investigators said the case began after Chen was suspected of downloading child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as CSAM.

During the investigation, detectives identified Chen as the suspect and learned that he operates a music studio from his Fair Oaks home, where he provides lessons to students. Authorities said many of those students are children, including some as young as 4.

Detectives served a search warrant at Chen’s residence Sept. 30 and reported finding evidence of child sexual abuse material during the search. Chen was subsequently arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of possession of child sexual abuse material.

Authorities stressed that investigators have not uncovered evidence indicating Chen had inappropriate physical contact with a child. However, because of his access to children through his music instruction, detectives are seeking information from families who may have had contact with him.

Investigators said they are not currently aware of any previous reports or concerns involving Chen. Detectives believe he has taught music in the Sacramento area for approximately 10 years, potentially putting him in contact with numerous students and families during that time.

The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging parents and guardians whose children received music lessons from Chen to speak with their children about their interactions with him. Anyone who learns of concerning behavior or potentially criminal conduct is asked to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency.
