A fast-moving structure fire on Easter Sunday afternoon displaced multiple residents but was stopped before it could fully consume a duplex, thanks to a rapid response by the Folsom Fire Department.

The fire was reported at approximately 4:45 p.m. on April 5 pm, the 100 block of Dean Way, near the intersection with Stafford Street after a 911 caller reported visible flames erupting in the residential area near Theodore Judah School According to officials, the first dispatched engine arrived on scene within four minutes and reported flames on the exterior of a multi-family residential duplex that had extended into the attic.

According to Folsom Battalion Chief Nick Lawlor, fire crews initiated an aggressive offensive attack, working simultaneously from both inside and outside the structure to contain the blaze. Firefighters also forced entry into both units of the duplex to conduct primary and secondary searches, ensuring no occupants were trapped inside.

“Crews immediately initiated an aggressive offensive attack, simultaneously battling the flames from both the interior and exterior of the building,” said Lawlor, who served as incident commander. The fire was brought under control within approximately 15 minutes.

While the fire caused damage to the attic space, firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading into the main living areas of the duplex. As a result, the interior living quarters were largely preserved, allowing residents to safely retrieve personal belongings.

A total of 15 individuals were displaced by the fire. While the fire caused damage to the attic of the 961 square foot dwelling, the living spaces were successfully saved, allowing residents to retrieve their personal belongings.The American Red Cross responded to assist those impacted, providing support and resources, according to the department.

A total of 26 firefighters responded to the incident, including four engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and two command units. Additional assistance was provided by Metro Fire, SMUD and PG&E. According to Lawlor, the cause of the fire remains under investigation that is being conducted Folsom Fire arson investigators.
