Units from Folsom, El Dorado Hills contain Souza Way structure fire to garage, attic of home
Firefighters from two agencies made quick work of a fast-moving structure fire that damaged a home in Folsom’s Parkway community Thursday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 12:35 p.m. in the 1100 block of Souza Way, where callers reported smoke and a possible fire behind a fenced area along the side of a home near the garage. The incident drew a response from the Folsom Fire Department, with the El Dorado Hills Fire Department assisting through mutual aid.
The response included six engines, two truck companies, a battalion chief unit and additional support personnel. Folsom Police also responded to assist with keeping residents safe and managing traffic in the tight residential neighborhood as fire crews worked at the scene.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered active flames along the side of the garage, where a fence and portions of the side yard were burning. The fire had extended up the exterior wall of the garage, with smoke visible from the eaves of the home.
Crews quickly began an aggressive attack and discovered the fire had extended into the attic area above the garage. Firefighters pulled ceiling material from inside the garage to access the burning area and advanced hose lines into position, quickly knocking down the active fire activity before it could spread farther through the home.
At the scene, firefighters worked through heavy smoke inside the garage area, where insulation and ceiling material were pulled down as crews checked for extension. Outside the home, fire damage was visible along the side yard and garage wall, where smoke continued to drift from the area after the initial knockdown.
The majority of the damage was contained to the garage, the attic area above the garage and the side yard of the home. A neighboring home also suffered exterior damage in the incident. According to Folsom Fire officials, four occupants have been displaced due to the damage.
The source of the fire remains under investigation. The scene remained active at the time of this report as firefighters continued overhaul operations.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters working the incident. Prior to arrival of firefighters, neighbors managed to help get the family dog out of the home, a pet cat was also found safe after the incident.
