Friends of Folsom Parkways seeks volunteers and sponsors for four available trail segments across the city

With miles of scenic recreational trails connecting neighborhoods, parks, schools and some of the city’s most popular outdoor destinations, Friends of Folsom Parkways is encouraging residents, families, businesses and community groups to help preserve one of Folsom’s most treasured amenities through the city’s Adopt-a-Trail program.

Folsom’s extensive trail network has long been one of the city’s defining outdoor features, offering residents connected pathways for recreation, exercise, cycling, walking and commuting throughout the community. The trail system links many of the city’s neighborhoods, parks, schools and recreational destinations while serving as a major part of Folsom’s outdoor lifestyle and quality of life.

The volunteer-driven effort helps maintain portions of Folsom’s extensive trail network through regular litter cleanup, trail monitoring and community stewardship. Friends of Folsom Parkways, also known as FOFP, currently has four trail segments available for adoption, including Segments 3, 4, 9 and 26.

The program is open to individuals, friends, families, neighbors, service organizations and businesses willing to help maintain a one-mile section of trail for a one-year commitment. Participants are asked to conduct regular trail checks and cleanup efforts at least once a month while reporting larger maintenance concerns or safety issues to the organization’s Adopt-a-Trail Coordinator for additional support.

As trail usage continues to remain high throughout the year, local volunteers play an important role in helping keep the city’s recreational corridors clean, safe and welcoming for walkers, runners, cyclists and families enjoying the outdoors. The city’s trail system serves as a key connection point throughout Folsom, linking residential neighborhoods to parks, schools, shopping areas and major recreation destinations.

Trail segments 3 and 4 are located near the American River Canyon area and are currently available for adoption for those who live or work nearby. Segment 9 follows the heavily traveled trail corridor along Folsom Dam, stretching from near Folsom-Auburn Road at Lake Natoma Crossing to the intersection of East Natoma Street.

Segment 26 serves part of central Folsom, beginning near Peet’s Coffee and extending to Cummings Family Park, an area frequently used by neighborhood residents and recreational trail users.

Volunteers participating in the Adopt-a-Trail program typically assist with removing litter and debris while helping identify issues such as graffiti, damaged signage, erosion concerns or other maintenance needs along the trail system.

Businesses can also participate through sponsorship opportunities connected to the program. One-year Adopt-a-Trail sponsorships are available for $500 per trail section, with donated funds helping support continued maintenance of the selected trail areas as well as additional needs throughout the city’s broader trail system.
