Residents interested in learning more about Folsom’s Police and Fire departments or who are interested in becoming a CAPS (Citizens Assisting Public Safety) volunteer are encouraged to apply for the 2024 Public Safety Citizen’s Academy. Classes will be held each Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. March 13 through May 1.

Class topics will include basic operations, narcotics, SWAT, K-9 and Mounted units, CSI, dispatch and emergency response, and much more. Successful completion of the Public Safety Citizen’s Academy is required to apply to become a CAPS volunteer.

The Public Safety Citizen’s Academy is an educational program designed to create a greater understanding and trust between public safety agencies and Folsom residents. The Public Safety Citizen’s Academy is also a required training program for the CAPS (Citizens Assisting Public Safety) Volunteer Program.

The next Public Safety Citizen’s Academy will begin March 13, 2024 and will continue each Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Graduation from the 2024 Public Safety Citizen’s Academy will take place Wednesday May 1. 

To successfully complete the Public Safety Citizen’s Academy and be considered for the CAPS volunteer program, participants must attend and participate in all sessions.

  • Use of Force
  • CSI
  • Identity Theft
  • Communications (Dispatch)
  • SWAT, Narcotics
