District, educators and industry leaders come together to highlight hands-on learning and workforce connections
Students, educators and industry leaders came together at Cordova High School last week for the Folsom Cordova Unified School District’s CTE Spring Advisory Meeting, offering a firsthand look at how Career Technical Education programs are preparing students for the workforce.
Held Thursday, March 26, the event highlighted the growing impact of CTE programs across the district, with students and teachers sharing their experiences in hands-on learning environments that connect classroom instruction with real-world applications. From technical skills to workplace readiness, presenters emphasized how these programs are helping students build a strong foundation for future careers.
Students spoke about opportunities to gain practical experience through partnerships with local businesses, where they can apply what they learn in class to real job settings. Teachers reinforced how these pathways are designed to provide both academic and career-focused instruction, allowing students to explore interests while developing valuable, in-demand skills.
District data presented during the meeting underscored the program’s reach and continued growth. A total of 3,456 students in grades 6 through 12 are currently participating in CTE programs, including 37 percent of high school students and 20 percent of middle school students, reflecting a significant investment in career readiness across multiple grade levels.

The advisory meeting also served as a collaborative forum for educators and industry professionals, ensuring that CTE programs remain aligned with current workforce needs. By bringing together those who design curriculum with those who hire and train employees, the district continues to refine programs that directly support both student success and regional economic development.
Career Technical Education programs play a critical role in bridging the gap between education and employment, giving students early exposure to career options while equipping them with practical experience and marketable skills. District leaders noted that continued investment in CTE not only benefits students but also strengthens the broader community by helping develop a skilled and prepared workforce.
