Austin Alvarez recognized for work protecting children, honored on floor of U.S. House of Representatives
A Folsom Police Department detective whose work focuses on investigating crimes against children has received congressional recognition for his service and dedication.
Detective Austin Alvarez has been inducted into the 2026 Third Congressional District’s Police Honor Roll, according to an announcement from the Folsom Police Department.
Alvarez serves on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, commonly known as ICAC, where he works to identify and hold accountable individuals who exploit and prey upon children.
The department said the investigations Alvarez handles are often difficult and demanding, requiring investigators to work through complex cases and disturbing evidence while focusing on identifying offenders and protecting victims.
“These investigations are complex, time-consuming, and often involve deeply disturbing evidence. Detective Alvarez consistently approaches this challenging work with professionalism, compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting victims and pursuing justice,” the Folsom Police Department said in its announcement.
According to the department, Alvarez’s work has directly contributed to the identification, arrest and prosecution of offenders while helping protect vulnerable victims from further harm.
The department also credited his dedication and specialized expertise with making an impact beyond the individual cases he investigates, contributing to the broader effort to protect children from exploitation.
Alvarez’s service was recently recognized at the national level by U.S. Rep. Kevin Kiley, who recognized the Folsom detective on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
The Folsom Police Department congratulated Alvarez on his induction and thanked him for his work on behalf of the community.
“Congratulations, Austin! Thank you for your dedication to protecting our most vulnerable members of the community and for representing the Folsom Police Department with distinction,” the department said.
