A person was rescued from the American River and transported to a local hospital Wednesday afternoon after reportedly jumping from Rainbow Bridge and becoming injured on the rocks below, according to the Folsom Fire Department.

The incident was reported at approximately 4:50 p.m. Aug. 5 near Rainbow Bridge at 9920 Greenback Lane.

According to the Folsom Fire Department, first-arriving crews learned an injured individual was located on the rocks along the north side of the river after reportedly jumping from the bridge.

Firefighters launched a coordinated rescue operation involving Engine 36, Battalion Chief 15, Boat 35 and Medic 35 to reach and safely remove the patient from the difficult-to-access location.

Boat 35 transported the injured individual across the river to the Black Miners Bar boat launch, where care was transferred to crews with Medic 35 at approximately 5:15 p.m.

The patient was then transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment. The extent of the injuries has not been released.

All responding fire units cleared the scene safely a short time later. The incident remains under investigation.
