A response by the Folsom Fire and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Depsrtments to a reported structure fire Wednesday evening was ultimately contained to a single apartment kitchen after crews determined the source to be food left unattended on a stove.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 9:19 p.m. to the 400 block of Gem Smith Place, off Sibley Street, after reports of a possible structure fire. Crews from Folsom Fire Department responded along with mutual response by Sacramento Metro Fire units to the call.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the eaves of the residence along with visible smoke inside the unit, prompting an immediate escalation of operations.
Fire personnel established a water supply and prepared for an interior fire attack as crews made entry into the apartment.
Once inside, firefighters located the source of the fire in the kitchen area, where burning food left on the stove had ignited and produced heavy smoke throughout the residence.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it extended beyond the immediate cooking area, preventing further damage to the structure. While the fire itself was contained, firefighters reported heavy smoke conditions inside the home.
No injuries were reported, and the incident was brought under control shortly after crews made entry and knocked down the fire.
Metro Fire’s Truck 65, which was initially dispatched to
multi family complex was released from the scene shortly after arrival.
The response included three engines, two truck companies, one medic unit and two battalion chief units, reflecting a full structure fire assignment.
Fire officials routinely remind residents to remain attentive while cooking and to never leave food unattended on a stove, as unattended cooking remains one of the leading causes of residential fires.
