Six people were arrested Monday evening in two separate retail theft incidents near Iron Point Road that led to the recovery of a stolen handgun, fentanyl and multiple outstanding warrants, according to the Folsom Police Department.
The incidents unfolded within about an hour of each other on Memorial Day as officers responded to separate reports of thefts targeting shoe retailers in the area.
The first incident began around 6:30 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the Nike Factory Store after employees reported several suspects stole nearly $1,500 worth of merchandise before fleeing on foot.
Police said officers immediately began searching nearby businesses and trails, eventually spotting one of the suspects and pursuing him on foot before taking him into custody. During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded handgun investigators believe had been discarded by the suspect while fleeing. The firearm was later determined to be stolen.
Officers also recovered approximately 58 grams of fentanyl during the investigation, according to police.
Additional suspects connected to the theft were later located nearby and detained.
Police identified those arrested in connection with the Nike theft as Joseph Pellegrino, 18, of Sacramento; Niko Anderson Hardy, 33, of Sacramento; Travis Allen Knight, 36, of Sacramento; and Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, 37, of Rio Linda. All four were arrested on suspicion of organized retail theft.
Authorities said Camarena also faces additional charges including resisting arrest, possession of a loaded stolen firearm, narcotics sales-related offenses and possession of narcotics while armed. Police also said he had an outstanding warrant at the time of his arrest.
A fifth suspect, Christina Marie Beck, 45, of North Highlands, was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant during the investigation.
While officers were still processing the Nike theft investigation, police said another retail theft was reported at a nearby shoe store along the Iron Point corridor.
Officers quickly located the suspect in that case and recovered the stolen merchandise. Investigators later learned the suspect was on probation and had multiple outstanding warrants.
Justin McSperitt, 37, of Sacramento, was arrested on suspicion of theft with a prior conviction, violation of probation and three outstanding warrants.
All six suspects were booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
In a statement following the arrests, the Folsom Police Department credited quick response efforts by officers and cooperation from local businesses for helping bring both incidents to a safe conclusion.
“We appreciate the strong partnerships we share with our business community, whose timely reporting and cooperation continue to help keep Folsom safe,” the department shared.
