A Folsom area teenager was apprehended and cited late Tuesday afternoon after fleeing the scene of an accident and brandishing what was later determined to be an airsoft handgun, according to a report from the Folsom Police Department.

According to the Folsom Police Department report, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, dispatchers at the Folsom Police Department received a call from a motorist who reported they had been involved in a hit-and-run collision near the intersection of Greenback Lane and Folsom Boulevard. The reporting party stated they were rear-ended near the location and that the female driver who struck them then pulled up alongside the victim and pointed a handgun at them as they sped off.

The victim was able to see that the suspect sped down Folsom-Auburn Road and reported that to officers with a detailed vehicle description. Dispatchers alerted officers with details of the report. Folsom Police motor units that were in the area were able to quickly locate the suspect vehicle and the 17-year-old female driver.

After catching up with the driver, officers performed a subsequent search of the vehicle in an effort to locate the firearm that was reported to have been aimed at the victim involved in the collision. During the search, officers located two airsoft handguns inside the vehicle. According to the report, officers cited the juvenile suspect on various charges related to the hit-and-run and brandishing. The suspect was then released to the custody of their family, according to the Folsom Police Department.

The Folsom Police Department is not releasing the suspect’s name and other details due to being under the age of 18, according to their report.
