Assemblyman Josh Hoover (R-Folsom) has announced that Shogun Sushi has been named the June 2026 Small Business of the Month for the 7th Assembly District.
Small businesses are the backbone of the 7th Assembly District and our nation, preserving neighborhoods, creating jobs, and bringing communities together. Shogun Sushi exemplifies that spirit through its commitment to excellence, hospitality, and community engagement.
Shogun Sushi owner, Alex Smbatyan, developed a passion for the restaurant industry at a young age after immigrating to the United States with his family in 1999. Inspired by the example set by his parents, he learned the value of hard work, hospitality, and customer service early in life. Through years of dedication, perseverance, and hands-on experience, Alex achieved his dream of restaurant ownership in 2013 and later brought his vision of a restaurant reflecting his personal values and commitment to excellence to life with the opening of Shogun Sushi in January 2024.
Since opening, Shogun Sushi has quickly become a valued part of the Carmichael community, earning recognition for its outstanding food, exceptional service, and strong commitment to supporting local schools, charities, organizations, and community events. The restaurant’s dedication to quality and community connection has also been recognized with First Place for Best Sushi in Carmichael, along with growing recognition across the region.
Much of Shogun Sushi’s success is attributed to its dedicated team, including head chefs Drew and Munkh for their creativity, innovation, and commitment to excellence, manager Daniel for his leadership and dedication to both staff and guests, and Alex’s wife, Linet, whose support and encouragement have been instrumental in making this vision a reality.
