Cy Young Award winner, World Series champion to perform Aug. 26 with The Golden Cadillacs in Historic Folsom
Baseball fans are accustomed to seeing Jake Peavy take center stage on a pitcher’s mound. Next week in Historic Folsom, the former Major League Baseball star will take a very different kind of stage.
Gaslight Co. will host Peavy for an intimate, one-night-only live music event Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 718 Sutter Street, where the former Cy Young Award winner and World Series champion will perform alongside his friends, The Golden Cadillacs.
The entire Gaslight Co. venue will be reserved exclusively for the event, with attendance limited to just 80 guests, creating a rare opportunity for baseball and music fans to see Peavy perform in a setting far removed from the stadiums where he built his professional reputation.
Peavy is best known to sports fans for a Major League career that spanned 15 seasons. The right-handed pitcher became one of baseball’s dominant starters during his years with the San Diego Padres, winning the National League Cy Young Award in 2007 after capturing the pitching Triple Crown by leading the league in wins, earned run average and strikeouts.
His career later took him to the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants. Peavy won a World Series championship with Boston in 2013 before being traded to San Francisco the following season, where he became part of the Giants’ 2014 World Series championship team.
For Northern California baseball fans, his time with the Giants made Peavy a familiar figure during one of the franchise’s most memorable eras. He remained with San Francisco through the 2016 season.
Away from baseball, however, music has long been a major part of Peavy’s life.
A guitarist and longtime supporter of live music, Peavy has developed deep connections within the roots, Americana and jam-band communities. He has performed with a variety of musicians over the years and has used music as a vehicle for charitable work through the Jake Peavy Foundation.
The foundation has focused on helping young people and veterans through music, education and community programs. Peavy has also invested in music-related projects in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama, including recording and performance spaces intended to bring musicians together.
That combination of baseball, music and philanthropy will come together during the Folsom appearance, which is being billed as more than simply a concert. Organizers describe it as an intimate evening of live music, drinks and conversation with a charitable component.
Peavy will be joined by The Golden Cadillacs for the performance, giving the limited audience a chance to experience the former big-league pitcher in the musical environment that has become an important part of his life beyond professional baseball.
Two ticket levels are available for the event.
VIP admission is $75 and includes early access beginning at 5:30 p.m., a pre-show meet-and-greet with Peavy inside Gaslight Co.’s Speakeasy, hors d’oeuvres and light bites, an autograph opportunity and access to a private bar where specialty cocktails and other beverages will be available for purchase.
General admission is $50 and includes entry to the private performance, access to the Speakeasy lounge before the music begins at 7:30 p.m. and patio seating.
Tickets are being limited to a maximum of two per invitation, and organizers said only a limited number remain available.
The small capacity is expected to make the Aug. 26 appearance considerably different from a traditional concert. Rather than seeing Peavy from across a ballpark or a large music venue, the 80 guests inside Gaslight Co. will be only feet away as the former major leaguer trades baseballs and strikeouts for guitars and songs.
For Historic Folsom, it also brings an unusual crossover event to Sutter Street — one that combines a recognizable figure from Major League Baseball with the live music atmosphere of the district.
Gaslight Co. is located at 718 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom. The event takes place Wednesday, Aug. 26, with VIP access beginning at 5:30 p.m. and music beginning at 7:30 p.m.
