A Tony Award-winning story that has captivated audiences from Broadway to regional stages is now making its way into the heart of Historic Folsom, asHadestown: Teen Editionprepares to open this month at Sutter Street Theatre.

Beginning April 18 and running through May 18, the production brings a powerful blend of music, mythology and storytelling to one of the city’s most intimate and community-driven performance venues, located at 717 Sutter Street in the Historic Folsom District.

Set against the backdrop of Greek mythology,Hadestownintertwines the stories of Orpheus and Eurydice with that of Hades and Persephone, delivering a haunting and hopeful narrative centered on love, sacrifice and resilience. Created by Anaïs Mitchell, the original Broadway production earned eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and has been widely praised for its emotional depth and genre-blending score that fuses folk, jazz and blues influences.

Now, that globally recognized production is being reimagined locally through Sutter Street Theatre’s youth academy program, showcasing a talented cast of young performers under the direction of Sarah Williams with music direction by Heather Clark. The teen edition of the show maintains the heart of the original while adapting its themes and staging for a younger ensemble, offering a fresh take that highlights emerging local talent.
