Deputy injured in crash while responding as authorities secure campus and investigate threat
GRANITE BAY — Granite Bay High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after authorities received a reported shooting threat, prompting a swift and large-scale response from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.
According to the sheriff’s office, the threat was reported shortly after 12:15 p.m., triggering immediate lockdown procedures at the campus. A school resource officer who was already on site quickly began working to secure the campus, ensuring students, staff and visitors were moved to safe locations while deputies assessed the situation.
Officials confirmed there is no active shooter at the school at this time, but a significant law enforcement presence remains on campus as authorities continue to investigate the origin and credibility of the threat.
As a precaution, nearby schools in the area were also placed on lockdown while deputies worked to secure the scene and prevent any potential risk to surrounding campuses.
Initial reports indicated multiple emergency calls suggested a possible armed individual on or near school grounds, prompting the rapid response and heightened safety measures. Law enforcement officers established a perimeter around the school and began conducting a thorough search of the campus.
Students and staff were directed to remain in secure locations during the lockdown, with school officials coordinating closely with law enforcement to account for everyone on campus. Authorities have not released information regarding any suspects or confirmed injuries related to the threat itself.
During the emergency response, a deputy traveling to assist at the scene was involved in a crash at Sierra College Boulevard and Douglas Boulevard in Roseville. The deputy was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. Another individual involved in the collision was also taken to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries has not been released.
Sheriff’s deputies searched the entire campus and found no threat, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff’s officials have advised Granite Bay High and nearby schools that they can lift their lockdowns.
