From hard-driving funk metal and classic Sacramento rock to live comedy and laid-back island rhythms, The Boardwalk is packing Memorial Day weekend with three straight days of entertainment that showcase the longtime Orangevale venue’s wide-ranging live music and performance lineup.
The weekend kicks off Friday night with a loud and theatrical mix of metal, fusion and hard rock asSMUT,Serpent From EdenandArch Elderstake the stage beginning at 8 p.m.
Known for over-the-top performances and a style they describe as “the sexiest funk, metal, fusion music ever to escape the menacing reality of the Bulgarian farmhouse,” SMUT brings a chaotic, high-energy presentation that leans heavily into crowd engagement, theatrical visuals and nonstop intensity. The band has recently appeared at iconic venues and events including The Whisky A-Go-Go and Fabio Fest 3, continuing to build a reputation for performances that blend humor, musicianship and hard-hitting energy into one unpredictable experience.
Friday’s performance will also feature SMUT dancers Stephanie and Anna, adding even more visual spectacle to a night expected to lean fully into theatrical rock performance and crowd interaction.
Joining the lineup isSerpent From Eden, Cleopatra Recording Artists and the acclaimed California metal band featuring guitarist John “Gumby” Goodwin, whose career includes work with Ozzy Osbourne, Ringo Starr and George Clinton. The band arrives at The Boardwalk celebrating a special tribute release honoring former bandmate and legendary drummer Nick Menza.

Menza, widely known for his years behind the drum kit for Megadeth, remains a major influence in heavy metal history, and the tribute project showcases previously unheard performances featuring Menza on every track. Longtime collaborator Darwin Ballard also appears on the album alongside contributions from former Megadeth members Chris Poland and David Ellefson, while renowned producer Max Norman helped shape the final release.
For more than three decades, Goodwin, Menza and Ballard performed together while building an extensive catalog of music and live performances documented through more than 20 installments of “The Team Metal Archives” documentary video series available on YouTube.
Current band members Pauli Infantino, James Yokoi and Chris Tracy are expected to bring the tribute material to life on stage Friday night, delivering a live performance centered around the music and legacy tied to one of metal’s most respected drummers.
Rounding out Friday’s lineup isArch Elders, a Sacramento rock band built around the sound and attitude of classic hard rock. Emphasizing raw guitar riffs, energy-driven performances and a throwback style rooted in the era when arena rock dominated the stage, the band continues to build a regional following among fans of straightforward, riff-heavy rock music.
The weekend shifts gears Saturday night as veteran broadcaster, comedian and entertainerArnie Statesbrings “An Evening with Arnie States Live!” to The Boardwalk for a performance built around comedy, storytelling and live audience interaction.

Best known throughout Northern California and Nevada radio audiences as a longtime co-host of the Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show, States spent nearly three decades in broadcasting and is an inductee into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. He later expanded into independent podcasting, live shows and touring comedy performances through “The Arnie States Show.”
His live performances combine stand-up comedy, current events commentary, improvisation and audience participation into a fast-paced, unpredictable format designed to mirror the unfiltered personality listeners have followed for years through radio and podcasting.
In addition to podcasting and broadcasting, States continues to perform live stand-up shows and special appearances throughout the region, with Boardwalk performances becoming popular stops for longtime fans eager to see his humor and personality in a live setting.
Saturday’s show begins at 8:30 p.m.
The weekend wraps Sunday afternoon with a completely different musical atmosphere asCoLoSo – Feel Good Island Soundbrings reggae, island grooves and tropical-inspired rhythms to The Boardwalk beginning at 3 p.m.
Short for Collection of Lone Souljahs, CoLoSo is an island-style reggae-rock band based in Vancouver, Washington, known for blending the laid-back musical influences of the Pacific Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands. The band was founded in 2013 by lead vocalist, lyricist and ukulele player Kevin Coloso after relocating from his hometown of Maui, Hawaii, to attend college on the mainland.
Fronted by Coloso’s signature ukulele-driven sound, the group delivers an upbeat mix of pop, roots reggae and island-inspired music while performing both as an intimate acoustic-style act and as a larger touring ensemble featuring horns, drums, guitars, bass and layered vocal harmonies.
Over the years, the band has released multiple studio albums and singles, including “Time to Grow” and “Colors of the Rainbow,” while building a following through extensive touring across the West Coast and Southwest in the group’s recognizable 24-passenger shuttle bus.

CoLoSo has also shared stages with major names in reggae and island music, including Collie Buddz, Anuhea, Eli-Mac, The Original Wailers, Ekolu, Fiji and Fortunate Youth.
Sunday’s performance offers a lighter, feel-good contrast to the heavier rock and comedy-centered performances earlier in the weekend while helping close out the Memorial Day celebration with laid-back tropical vibes and beach-party energy.
Located at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, The Boardwalk continues to serve as one of the Sacramento region’s most recognizable live entertainment venues, regularly hosting touring acts, tribute bands, regional performers, comedy shows and themed entertainment events.
