Update: 25 year old man arrested following assault with baseball bat, standoff
A significant law enforcement presence was reported Sunday evening at an apartment complex on Creekside Drive, where multiple units from the Folsom Police Department responded to an active and evolving situation at The Falls residential community.
Several patrol vehicles were on scene along with the deployment of a BearCat-style armored SWAT vehicle. A police was also observed operating overhead in the area as officers worked the scene. Folsom Fire and medics are also on scene.

According to police radio communications confirmed by Folsom Times, law enforcement at the time, officers were attempting to draw an injured, armed man who has barricaded himself inside an apartment at the complex after he was involved in a physical altercation shortly after 1:00 pm Sunday.
Residents that had been evacuated from the complex shared with Folsom Times that they witnessed a resident jump over the wall from his outside with a metal baseball bat and began attacking another man outside of the building, repeatedly striking him with the bat, causing injury. He was also reportedly wielding a sword.
Following the attack, the suspect then went inside the apartment where he barricaded himself, prompting a standoff with law enforcement for several hours until he was taken into custody after the use of non lethal force.

“At about 1:18 pm yesterday we received several 911 calls of someone being assaulted with a baseball bat. Officers arrived on scene and the suspect, a 25 year old resident of Folsom, had barricaded himself inside his apartment. The victim was transported to a local area hospital with injuries, Folsom Police spokesperson Deidre McAuliff told Folsom Times.
“The SWAT team responded along with crisis negotiators. Tear gas and less lethal munitions were deployed, McAulliff added. “The suspect was safely taken into custody and booked at Sacramento county main jail.”


Shortly after the apprehension, residents who had been evacuated from the complex were allowed back into their homes. At this time the condition of the victim has not been released. It was also reported that police were called to the suspect’s residence earlier in the day prior to the incident following a disturbance call.
Booking records show that Klein T. Smith of Folsom was arrested on multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and resisting a peace officer. He is currently ineligible for bail. In addition to the fresh charges, criminal records obtained by Folsom Times show Smith also faces felony burglary and vandalism charges in additional pending case.
