A multi-agency encampment cleanup operation is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, on state-owned property behind the 1100 block of Sibley Street, bringing temporary trail closures, intermittent traffic impacts and increased helicopter activity to the area.
The operation will be conducted by the Folsom Police Department in partnership with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. According to information released by the city, crews will be removing debris and materials from an encampment site located in a difficult-to-access area near the Humbug-Willow Creek corridor.
Due to the challenging terrain and limited vehicle access, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Air Operations Unit will assist by using a helicopter to transport materials from the cleanup site to a designated landing zone near Bidwell Street and Folsom Boulevard.
“Residents and businesses in the surrounding area should expect increased helicopter activity throughout the day,” the Folsom Police Department stated in its public notice. “The helicopter will operate at low altitude and will be visible and audible for several hours while materials are transported from the cleanup site.”
The cleanup operation is expected to result in temporary traffic and trail impacts between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on June 25. Traffic on Glenn Drive between 1000 Glenn Drive and 950 Glenn Drive will be subject to intermittent traffic holds to accommodate helicopter operations. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained during the operation.
In addition, the Humbug-Willow Creek Trail will be closed to all bicycle and pedestrian traffic between Sibley Street and Coolidge Drive during the cleanup effort. The temporary restrictions are intended to provide a safe flight path for helicopter operations and protect motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and nearby businesses.
The City of Folsom is asking residents for patience and cooperation as regional partners work together to complete the cleanup safely and efficiently from this abandoned encampment that has challenging circumstances.
