After last weekend’s rain forced a postponement, the Rotary Spring Concert Series is set to get back on track this Saturday as live music returns to the Zittel Family Amphitheater in Historic Folsom.
The free community concert resumes April 18 with Peter Morgan taking the stage from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., bringing his signature blend of yacht rock and smooth jazz to kick off what organizers hope will be a strong stretch of spring evenings filled with music and community gathering.
Presented by Folsom Rotary, the Spring Concert Series serves as a special standalone event organized by the service club, offering a seasonal prelude to the Historic Folsom Summer Twilight Concert Series hosted by the Folsom Historic District Association later in the year.
Morgan, known for his original contemporary jazz compositions, delivers a coastal smooth jazz sound infused with blues influences, creating a laid-back yet polished musical experience. A multi-instrumentalist and accomplished producer, he has independently produced six albums, showcasing his ability to perform across a wide range of instruments including guitar, harmonica, bass, keyboards, lap steel, dobro, pedal steel, pan flute, ukulele, percussion and vocals.
Over the years, Morgan has shared the stage with notable artists such as Fattburger, Michael McDonald, trumpeter Chris Botti and keyboardist Phillipe Saisse. He has also performed at the Sacramento Jazz Festival, one of the largest and most recognized jazz festivals in the world.
His career extends well beyond live performance. Morgan has served as music director for nationally broadcast PBS specials, including the Boston Computer Museum’s Computer Bowl and the Software Publishers Association’s 10th Annual Codie Awards, both featured on the series Computer Chronicles. More recently, his music has appeared on the WB Network series Hart of Dixie, further reflecting his reach within the industry.
Saturday’s event invites attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets, enjoy takeout from nearby Historic District restaurants and settle in for an evening of music along the amphitheater. Admission is free and open to all ages.
The Rotary series continues in the weeks ahead with Granite City 909 on April 25, Hired Mortals on May 2 and G-Ride closing out the spring lineup on May 9, with each performance scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Zittel Family Amphitheater.
