Foundation President Anthony Scotch accepted the award on May 14 on behalf of the nonprofit, which was founded in 1997 to preserve the Historic Murer House and Gardens, its events and activities for the community, and to strengthen cultural ties with Folsom’s sister city, Pieve del Grappa, Italy.

The annual award recognizes individuals and organizations that enrich the region through visual arts, performing arts, education and historic preservation.

Located at 1125 Folsom Blvd., the Historic Murer House and Gardens is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains one of the Sacramento region’s best-known Italian heritage sites. The Foundation continues to celebrate the legacy of Giuseppe “Joe” Murer and Cindy Baker through community events, educational programs and cultural activities.

This past year, the organization marked the property’s 100th anniversary with a Centennial High Tea. Other popular events include Camellia Day, Lavender Day, Italy on Wheels, bocce tournaments and monthly public tours held the first Saturday of each month.
