Commission to consider recommendation on future 10.75-acre neighborhood park in growing plan area
FOLSOM — The future of a new neighborhood park in one of Folsom’s fastest-growing areas moves a step forward tonight as the Parks & Recreation Commission is set to review and vote on the proposed Jackrabbit Hill Park Master Plan.
City staff from the Parks & Recreation Park Planning team will present the plan during the commission’s regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Folsom City Hall, located at 50 Natoma Street. The commission is expected to consider approval of the master plan and forward a recommendation to the Folsom City Council.
The proposed park, a 10.75-acre site located along Empire Ranch Road within the Folsom Plan Area, has been in development through multiple phases over the past year. City officials are encouraging residents to attend the meeting, learn more about the project and provide public comment before a recommendation is finalized.
For those unable to attend in person, the meeting will be streamed live beginning at 6:30 p.m. via the city’s website under the Parks & Recreation Commission “Webcasts” section.
Planning for the park began in June 2025 and concluded in December of that year, followed by a five-month community engagement phase that has included workshops and public input opportunities. Workshops were held earlier this year at Alder Creek Elementary School as part of the outreach process.
The park’s name, Jackrabbit Hill Park, was officially approved by the Folsom City Council at its March 10 meeting following a community-driven naming process. Residents submitted 131 name ideas, which were narrowed down to four finalists before the commission recommended the final selection.
The master plan now being presented has been refined based on that public feedback and outlines the overall vision and layout for the future park. If recommended by the commission, the plan will move to the City Council for final approval at a future meeting.
Following approval, the project is scheduled to move into the design and engineering phase from June 2026 through January 2027, with bidding and contract award anticipated in early 2027. Construction is projected to begin in May 2027 and continue through April 2028, followed by a short establishment period before a planned opening in July 2028.
