Folsom-led regional firefighting team spent four days assisting on the Loomis Fire before returning home Thursday evening.
A Sacramento County regional strike team led by the Folsom Fire Department returned home Thursday evening after completing a four-day deployment to the Loomis Fire in Lassen County, where firefighters worked alongside crews from across Northern California to strengthen containment lines and help keep the wildfire from spreading.
The strike team was mobilized on the evening of July 11 under an immediate need request through California’s Master Mutual Aid System, requiring firefighters to rapidly assemble and deploy to assist CAL FIRE’s Lassen-Modoc Unit. The team departed at approximately 8 p.m. and traveled overnight before being incorporated into the July 12 Incident Action Plan.
The deployment was led by a Strike Team Leader from the Folsom Fire Department with support from a Strike Team Leader Trainee from the Sacramento Fire Department.
The strike team included engines and personnel from five regional fire agencies: the Folsom Fire Department, Sacramento Fire Department, West Sacramento Fire Department, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and Manteca Fire Department.
Upon arriving at the incident, firefighters were immediately assigned to operations on the fire line. Working alongside multiple strike teams from throughout Northern California, crews focused on reinforcing hand lines established by CAL FIRE hand crews, installing hose lines around the fire perimeter and preventing the blaze from breaching established containment lines.
According to the Folsom Fire Department, firefighters carried out those assignments despite forecasts calling for extreme fire weather conditions. Through coordinated suppression efforts involving numerous agencies, crews successfully helped keep the fire within its existing footprint during a critical period of the incident.
After four days on assignment and following the passing of the most critical weather threat, CAL FIRE demobilized the strike team. All personnel and apparatus returned safely to their respective departments by the evening of July 16.
The deployment reflects the ongoing role local fire agencies play through California’s Master Mutual Aid System, which allows departments across the state to share personnel and equipment during major emergencies while maintaining emergency response capabilities in their own communities.
As California’s wildfire season continues, the Folsom Fire Department said it remains fully staffed and prepared to protect the local community while continuing to support statewide firefighting efforts whenever requested through the mutual aid system.
