Week two of high school football is almost here and our Folsom area teams are gearing up to hit their respective fields beneath those Friday night lights, well except one team that plays on Saturday this week.

Vista puts opening week loss behind them, heads to Ponderosa

Vista del Lago hits the road this Friday, although it’s a short trip just up the hill to Ponderosa High. The Vista Eagles have won the last three consecutive match ups against the Bruins and have won the majority of all games they have played against them with six wins over the period of nine seasons they have faced one another

Last Friday night Vista opened its season with a disappointing loss to Manteca. Disappointing because the Eagles started strong in the season opener at home against the defending section champs. Vista ended the first quarter of the season with a 12-7 lead last Friday and was still tied at the half in a game that ended at 42-35.

As Vista looks to rally back after their opening week loss, Ponderosa will come on to their home field with some momentum. Last week the Bruins won the coveted Gold Pan game over local rival El Dorado.

Oak Ridge faces Grant in powerhouse match up at home

The other local match up Friday will be Oak Ridge hosting Grant Friday night on their home turf up in El Dorado Hills.

Last Friday night Oak Ridge put all their pre-season adversity behind them and sent Spanish Springs on a long drive back to Nevada, the Trojans brough the final score to 54-14 by the end of the night. This week they face the Grant Pacers in a game of two powerhouse teams.

Last Friday Grant started their season off with a solid 52-12 victory over McQueen in Reno. The Pacers and the Trojans didn’t face each other last year. Going into this Friday night Oak Ridge has been successful over Grant nine different times in game play, five of which came in succession. They did however lose by a forfeit back in 2021.

Folsom makes the long haul to Serra Saturday

The Folsom Bulldogs are playing far from home this week as they continue their pre-league road stint this week. The dogs travel to Serra on Saturday. This will mark the first time they play Serra on the road, the only team they lost to in regular season play last year. Last Friday Folsom handled Monterey Trail and kept them off the scoreboard to win their season opener for the 11th time in 12 seasons.

Saturday’s game is a day game under the sun in San Mateo. Serra is currently the topped ranked team in Northern California and will be looking to make it two for two when it comes to chaining up the dogs. It isn’t expected to come easy for either team, however. In last year’s match up at Prairie City it came down to one single play that clinched the win for Serra, a night the Bulldogs will long remember and are looking to forget by means of a win Saturday.

Granite Bay

After corralling Elk Grove’s Thundering Herd last Friday night, the Granite Bay Grizzlies will travel to face the Manteca Buffalos this Friday night. This game brings the two teams back together after they clashed for the 2022 Division II Section title last year, a game that Manteca won.

Manteca will bring their momentum of their win against Vista to the game Friday. Likewise, Granite Bay will come into the game with an early season winning record after they defeated Elk Grove 27-13 last Friday in a game they were worried thery weren’t quite ready for.
